Day 1 · 1,828 m
Up the Alaknanda
Govindghat · Drive from Rishikesh · 10 hrs
A day of river gorges and hairpin bends along the Alaknanda. The air thickens with monsoon cloud and the hills turn a green that photos never quite get right.

A UNESCO valley that blooms in hundreds of colours after the rains.
For eight weeks a year this hanging valley turns into the most crowded garden on earth: blue poppies, cobra lilies, balsam and primula. We walk it slowly, the way it deserves.

Day 1 · 1,828 m
Govindghat · Drive from Rishikesh · 10 hrs
A day of river gorges and hairpin bends along the Alaknanda. The air thickens with monsoon cloud and the hills turn a green that photos never quite get right.

Day 2 · 3,049 m
Ghangaria · 10 km · 6 hrs
A stone path climbs beside the Pushpawati river past waterfalls that weren't there last week. Ghangaria is the last village before the valley, and our base for three nights.

Day 3 · 3,658 m
Valley of Flowers · 8 km · 7 hrs
The valley opens slowly, then all at once. Your leader names the flowers as you walk; you will forget most of the names and none of the colours.

Day 4 · 4,329 m
Hemkund lake · 12 km · 8 hrs
A steep climb to a glacial lake and the Sikh shrine on its shore. Brahma kamal grows wild along the last switchbacks, and the langar tea is the best you'll ever drink.

Day 5 · 3,500 m
Valley of Flowers · 6 km · 5 hrs
A gentler day deeper into the valley, with time to sit, sketch and watch for the Himalayan monal that likes to show off on the rocks above the trail.

Day 6 · 1,828 m
Govindghat · 10 km · 4 hrs
Back down the stone path, legs lighter than they were on the way up. A hot shower, a long lunch, and the drive home begins tomorrow.
